  • What is a shipping container?

Shipping containers, also known as cargo containers or Conex boxes, are large steel structures designed to transport goods and materials across long distances via various modes of transportation, such as ships, trains, and trucks. They are large metal boxes built to withstand the rigors of international shipping, making them nearly indestructible. They are typically rectangular and are available in many different sizes. Shipping containers have become increasingly popular beyond their primary purpose of transporting goods and are widely used as storage, temporary or permanent structures, pop-up shops, portable offices, and even as the building blocks for innovative architectural designs.

  • How Much Can a Shipping Container Hold?

Do you need help determining what size or type of storage container you need? We are the experts – and can answer any of your shipping container questions. However, if you are using a shipping container for your personal storage, here’s what you can expect:

A 20-foot storage container can hold the same as a typically-sized one-bedroom apartment or a standard two-car garage. A 20-foot container has an internal volume of 1,172 ft³.

A 40-foot storage container can hold the same as a three-bedroom home or about two times the size of a standard two-car garage. A 40-foot container has an internal volume of 2,385ft³. (A high cube container has an internal volume of 2,694ft³. The additional height gives you a greater storage capacity.)

  • What are the advantages of buying a used shipping container?

Used shipping containers are incredibly durable. They are built to withstand constant travel and use – and harsh weather conditions.

Used shipping containers are affordable. You can save hundreds (or thousands) of dollars by buying used – and they are more widely available!

Your used shipping container offers a private, secure way to store your equipment, inventory, and belongings. In fact, shipping containers are made of heavy-duty steel with a solid wood floor. Add your own lock for additional security.

An on-site storage solution is much more convenient than going to your off-site storage unit to access your belongings. Plus – storage container rental is much more affordable than tiny storage units.

Finally, used shipping containers are versatile. They’ve been used in many creative ways – such as a pop-up shop or restaurant, a pool, or a storage shed. They can even be converted into living quarters, offices, or portable bathrooms. Of course, you can also simply use a used shipping container to store your belongings so they are safe from the elements.

And reusing and repurposing shipping containers is an environmentally-friendly choice!
